Letter from the Editors

At Electric Spec, we pride ourselves in brining you original, out-of-the-ordinary speculative short stories. This issue takes "original" to a new extreme. Yes, in just this one issue, we have:

-- A eerie macabre story about an ancient severed head (David K. Yeh's "The Bog Man")

-- A . . . well . . . we are not quite sure the type of story, but it features returned-from-the-dead Elvis and raining frogs, if that helps ("The King Must Die" by Bo Balder)

-- A Hawaiian steampunk murder mystery ("Kites and Orchids" by George S. Walker)

-- A back-to-school sci-fi/fantasy spoof (Clint Spivy's "Sci Fi High")

-- And, of course, a story about what happens to girls to get it on with fairies ("When the Moon is Waning" by Larisa Walk)

Original? We rest our case.

We're also exited to include a special feature from long-time Electric Spec supporter and novelist Carol Berg. Carol has shared an excerpt from her new novel, Dust and Light, just released from NAL/Roc on August 5.
